Nigeria recovery rate from the Covid-19 pandemic saw a sharp increase in the month of July, even as the numbers of confirmed cases continue to rise, data collated from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control has revealed.
Analysis of the data, which was carried out by P+ Measurement Services saw Nigeria recording a total of 17,457 confirmed cases, 9,819 recoveries and 289 deaths during the period. This brings the total of Nigeria COVID-19 cases to 43,151, 19,565 total recoveries and 879 deaths which spread across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as of the 31st July, 2020.
Further data from the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control shows that to date, 279,675 samples have been tested across the Federation and there are 22,707 active cases in the country.
It will be recalled that the COVID-19 cases in Nigeria as at the end of June 2020 stood at 25,694 confirmed cases, 9,746 recoveries and 590.
The World Health Organisation says there is no “zero risks” strategy for countries easing international travel restrictions during the COVID-19 pandemic, warning that essential travel for emergencies should remain the priority.
In its updated guidance on travel on its website, the United Nations global health agency said the gradual lifting of travel measures (or temporary restrictions) should be based on a thorough risk assessment, taking into account country context, the local epidemiology and transmission patterns, the national health and social measures to control the outbreak, and the capacities of health systems in both departure and destination countries, including at points of entry.
